La víbora y el cuervo: A Bilingual Anthology

An original theatrical experience in English and Spanish premieres this August! OrangeMite Shakespeare Company seeks actors, storytellers, and puppeteers for this production in York, Pennsylvania.

OrangeMite’s original theatrical production, La víbora y el cuervo, will premiere this August in York, PA! It features indigenous Mexican storytelling in conversation with classic dramatic texts, including Aeschylus and Shakespeare. This original anthology play is in both English and Spanish, and it explores ecological themes with puppetry, storytellers, and Shakespearean actors!

The performances are the weekend of August 21, 2026.

LINGUISTIC REQUIREMENTS: All levels of Spanish and English fluency are welcome. While the production includes both languages, only three roles require bilingual or Spanish-speaking performers; most roles are primarily in English.

A few notes about the production:

  • The show runs just upwards of one hour, no more than 75 minutes.

  • Features the following texts in conversation with the following indigenous stories:

    • Chapter 1: “El Cuervo y el fuego” & Prometheus Bound

    • Chapter 2: “La víbora de algodón” & Locrine

    • Chapter 3: “La iguana y el cazador” & As You Like It

    • Chapter 4: “El rico y el pobre” & Edward III

    • Chapter 5: “El señor y la señora Tlalocan” & A Midsummer Night’s Dream
